btw....sure there are alot of 2 and 3's that become great players. You've got to season that in with some of the big daddy's that are 4's and 5's though. 1 4 and 1 5 isn't going to do it. You'll notice a big difference in 3-4 years when you're trying to beat Miami.

and VT has done more with "less" than anyone in the nation

i'll take the players Beamer wants and see what happens on the field

That's gonna keep that empty trophy case looking the same too. 10-2, 11-1 is great. You can do better though.

year in, year out VT has the same records as all of the big boys (excluding USC) and we do it with about the same recruiting class each year except our recruiting has seen a steady climb since joining the ACC

    ill take our chances

you pointed out that Fleming is .1 away form being a 4-star...look at all the players VT already has that are at that 5.7 mark...id say at least 5 of them will be bumped up (not including the 2 star guys on the edge who could be bumped up to 3)...scout has a couple VT players already at 4 stars

    Re: Tennessee gets 11th committment...

Who cares about Scout? They're clueless. They originally had Chris Donald (LB) rated as a two star. Rivals has him as a four and said he'll be a five when the next eval rolls around. I saw where one of the guys asked a guy on a Scout board about that and his only answer was "We missed the boat on that one." It seems like Rivals does a much better job of evaluating players than Scout. I'll bet you money, you name the price, that 5 of those guys don't get bumped. 1 or 2 might, not 5. I want you to let me know when those 5 get bumped.

You've listed several players that have commited to VT and said "chose vt over UT and...." the only ones that VT got that I know UT was remotely interested in was Taylor and what was the athlete's name, Morgan?

    Re: Tennessee gets 11th committment...

if i ever reported (per rivals) any recruit that i said had a UT offer and you knew otherwise id hope youd say so...im not calling you a liar im not calling rivals a liar...im calling cj fleming a liar, ive read his updates and he says all the time that he's had a vt offer and it just isn't true...it's not a me v.s. you thing or a vt v.s. ut thing...kid was simply lying about the offers he had on the table

and yes i know rivals is better than scout and we joke from time to time about scout being so far behind...but dont you think Beamer (or Fulmer for that matter) is sitting in his office saying "Who cares about rivals? they're clueless"...i know Beamer doesn't recruit based on rankings, he bases his offers off of personal evaluation of a prospect whether it be from watching a game in person or at camps over summer...i can't think of a single offer vt has put out without watchin a prospect in person first and the fact that most of our commits this summer came from kids at the camp alleviates any worries id have about their ranking...if beamer saw them in person and said "i want that kid" and then we simply offered and they committed then im not worried in the least bit...ill take Beamer over rivals, scout, espn anyday

    Re: Tennessee gets 11th committment...

I'm not saying that Beamer or Fulmer base their recruiting on what any recruiting service has to say, but I do know for a fact that most coaches including UT and ND for sure, do subscribe to those sites. It's a good way to find prospects and it's a good way to see film. Nothing more.

Do I think CJ Fleming had an offer from VT and UVA. Yes. If you think he didn't, I think you're crazy. Not athletic enough for VT!! Yeah. Looking at his film and the film of the majority of VT's present commits, I'd take CJ. Another reason I think he has an offer from VT, he goes to Highland Springs. About any player that has ever came from that school had an offer from VT. His teammate, that VT is recruiting now (I can't remember his name now) is another reason I think he has an offer. It's about the same situation as last year when VT wanted Brent Vinson. For weeks up till the commit to UT you acted like he was a god because you thought he may end up at VT. The VT coaches finally figured out he was going to UT and when they talked on the phone it was decided he didn't need to make a visit. You said that VT pulled their offer to Brent Vinson. They didn't pull his offer. They just knew he wasn't coming and pretty much told him not to waste either of their time. Since then, you've said "he's dumb as a box of rocks", "will never be on the field", "will never make it into school", and things of that nature. He was a gnats [censored] away from being eligible and will enroll at UT in January. I don't question anything you say, I just sometimes question your objectivity. I think the Kool-Aid your're drinking, and the glasses you're looking through are tinted that God awful maroon color too often.

    Re: Tennessee gets 11th committment...

and i'm saying he honest to God had no offer and never had an offer from VT...yes VT is recruiting Cris Hill, VT does have a big presence in Highland Springs...we offered Jarrell Miller last year but as a DE not an LB which he wanted to play

VT wanted one corner in this year's class (Cris Hill), we took 4-5 CB's with last year's class and only wanted one...it was down to Fleming and Hill, VT said Fleming wasn't athletic enough and ONLY offered Hill

from Scott Burton head coach at Highland Springs

"Cris is a better athlete. I'm not saying that he doesn't work hard. He's as hard a worker as we have in our program. It's just that, athletically, things come easier.

"Sometimes, with young kids, you have youngsters who try to do stuff 'outside of their frame.' Cris is not like that. But you can see it in the way he runs pass patterns (on offense) or runs track.

"C.J. loves the challenge. But there is more 'rawness' about his game. He doesn't have that 'Wow' factor like Cris. Some people might not say that, but I see them every day and notice these things," Burton said."

now, there's some objectivity and it supports exactly what i just told you...you just don't listen b/c you don't think im being objective...if there's ever a time when i am objective it is right now

    Re: Tennessee gets 11th committment...

Because the coach says that Hill is more athletic and CJ is more raw supports you? How's that. I'm not saying that Hill isn't a better athlete, or there aren't 100 better athletes, just the fact that "he's not athletic enough for VT" is assinine. I've seen some of the crap they've put on the field.

And how do you know for 100% certainty that VT didn't offer CJ. Coaches can't talk about recruits till after signing day so if they did say anything that's an NCAA violation. If you think they only gave out ONE scholarship offer for CB you're crazy. If so, I hope to hell that's true. Put all your eggs in one basket and see what you get.

Anyway...it's been fun. Bedtime for me. I've got to go to work in a few hours. To be continued....
